image Since more than a decade I'm working in nonlinear dynamics and pattern formation far from equilibrium. Topics in this fields are parametrically excited spin waves, pattern formation in strongly nonlocal systems, propagation of fronts into unstable states, and nonlinear dynamics of atomic force microscopy.
image Now I am mainly working on solid-solid friction and nanotribology. Together with two of my former PhD students ( Torsten Strunz and Michael Weiss ) I have studied the dynmical properties of the Frenkel-Kontorova model and the Frenkel-Kontorova-Tomlinson model. Other topics are statistical mechanics of solid-solid friction, controlling friction, and self-organized criticality.

Don't forget to have a look on my list of publications with preprints which can be loaded down.
